Your first objective

Early progress is less about finding one perfect unit and more about making every army slot useful. Start by covering three jobs: a unit that can hold the front, a ranged unit that contributes from safety, and a mobile unit that can react to pressure. Use the fourth slot to reinforce whichever job your current map or opponents expose as weak.

Fast ruleBuild a functioning formation before investing heavily in a single rare unit. A balanced squad gives you more ways to recover when the battle changes.

Understand the roles

Frontline

Frontline units create space and absorb pressure. Shieldman and Spearman are accessible early choices; stronger anchors such as Spartan or Immortal can replace them later. Your front should survive long enough for the rest of the squad to work.

Ranged

Ranged units add damage without crowding the frontline. Archer is a starter option, while Crossbowman offers more focused ranged pressure in our current unit data. Position matters: a ranged unit that is reached immediately cannot deliver its value.

Mobile

Mobile units help contest open ground, respond to a flank, or reach targets that a slow formation cannot. Scout Rider is the current mobile option in our tracked roster. Mobility is particularly useful when your otherwise strong army feels late to every fight.

A sensible early route

  1. Redeem currently working codes before spending. Free gems give you more flexibility and may change which units are available to build around.
  2. Fill all four slots. Empty capacity is almost always a bigger problem than having a lower-rarity but useful unit.
  3. Secure one reliable frontline unit, then add ranged pressure and mobility.
  4. Test the formation in real matches. Note whether you lose because the front collapses, damage arrives too slowly, or enemies move around you.
  5. Upgrade the role that repeatedly fails. Replace units for a reason, not only because a new pull has more stars.

Spend resources with a plan

Keep a reserve instead of spending every gem immediately. New units and balance changes can shift what your roster needs. When deciding between more pulls and upgrades, ask whether the next purchase solves a visible weakness. If it does not, holding resources is a valid choice.

Rarity and pull chance describe availability, not automatic success. Our unit tier list is an editorial snapshot; your formation, positioning, and available upgrades still determine how a unit performs for you.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Stacking only frontline units and having no safe damage.
  • Running fragile ranged units without a durable screen.
  • Ignoring movement until a slow army cannot answer map pressure.
  • Replacing a dependable unit solely because another has a rarer label.
  • Using unverified code lists and repeatedly entering expired codes.
RememberGame balance and code status can change. Treat this guide as a planning framework and check official announcements when an update lands.

What to do next

Open the four-slot army builder and create your current squad. If one of the three role meters is empty, that is the first weakness to test. Then read the formation guide for adaptable squad templates.
